Pueblo will celebrate the harvest of the Mira Sol Chile at the 18th Annual Loaf âN Jug Chile & Frijoles Festival, September 21-23, 2012. The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce created the festival as a fun fall event designed to promote the areaâs agriculture, especially its home-grown chilies. The event takes place in downtown Pueblo on the Historic Union Avenue between 1st Street and âBâ Street. Festival hours are Friday, 3pm-11pm; Saturday, 10am-11pm and Sunday, 10am-6pm. The festival is $2 per person, children under 12 are free. This festival has grown to more than 100,000 attendees over the three days of activities and family fun! The Festival attracts visitors from all over the state as well as some of our neighboring states.
The smell of roasted chile fills the air as you stroll along the street fair with over 200 vendor booths to check out and many other fun activities. The festival will feature entertainment tents to keep you dancing with continuous live entertainment throughout the 3 days.Â Entertainment tents will be filled with local dance groups and more than 40 local bands. You will enjoy genres including rock, folk, R&B, blues, tejano, original, pop and more!
Donât forget the annual Chile & Salsa Showdown; the food competition will be heating things up the festival!Â The competition will be held at the Pueblo Convention Center. The commercial competition will take place on Saturday, September 22nd. Winners of each category for the commercial entries will receive $500 along with bragging rights. Non-commercial will take place on Sunday, September 23rd, entries will be awarded prizes for the top three places; first place will receive $100, second place will receive $50 and third place will receive $25. Both commercial and non-commercial have three categories that will be judged including the best red chili, green chili and salsa.
Make sure to beat the parking hassle with the Chile Pepper Express FREE shuttle service! Park at the Midtown Shopping Center (1000 W. 6th Street) and catch the shuttle to the Loaf âN Jug Chile & Frijoles Festival. The shuttle will drop riders at Grand & Victoria right next to the Farmerâs Market. The shuttle will run Friday the 21st from 5-11pm, Saturday the 22nd from 11am-11pm and Sunday the 23rd from 11am-6pm every 15 minutes.
