Small Business Awards Luncheon Award Recipients

The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce will hold their Small Business Awards Luncheon, Thursday, April 13th, from 11:30am-1:00pm. The luncheon will be held at the Pueblo Union Depot and is sponsored by Legacy Bank. The Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce will present the Small Business of the Year Award and the “Charles W. Crews” Business Leader Award.

Small Business of the Year

The Small Business of the Year Award will be presented to American Medical Response. American Medical Response has excelled as Pueblo’s ambulance service for over 20 years. Employing 50 full time employees that are empowered to function with confidence and all are dedicated to providing the highest level of care and compassion to the citizens that they serve. The AMR team provides countless hours of volunteer time for programs such as “Home for the Holidays”, “Sentimental Journey” and the AMR Safety Jam that serves over 1000 children with safety gear for bicycling and skateboarding. In addition the “Pathways to Success” program offers scholarships to underserved young people to attend EMT school and they offer them employment upon completion.

“Charles W. Crews” Business Leader Award

The “Charles W. Crews” Business Leader Award will be presented to Steve Shirley, Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer of Parkview Medical Center. Steve has worked in Information Technology Management in both banking and healthcare fields for 39 years. He has an impressive educational background, he attended the University of Southern Colorado (now CSU-Pueblo) and received his Associates in Applied Science, Computer Science Technology and Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. He attended National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma and Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado. Steve also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from CSU – Pueblo.

Steve serves and volunteers for many local organizations and non profits throughout the Pueblo community. He has been coordinator for the Pueblo Special Olympics Games Management Team for the past 32 years. He is also Board Chair of the YMCA of Pueblo, Past Board Chair of Catholic Charities of Pueblo, Administrator of Henry G. Robinson Sight Conservation Fund, Chairman of the Colorado State Fair Parade committee, Information Technology Advisory committee member for both CSU-Pueblo and Pueblo Community College, Board Member and Past President of Pueblo Charter Lions Club. Steve has served on many other boards and committees over the years and has received several awards including Colorado Special Olympics Hall of Fame Outstanding Volunteer, Lions Clubs of Colorado Humanitarian Award, Lions Clubs International Melvin Jones Fellow, and Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year, CSU-Pueblo.

“Through his leadership as a volunteer for local non profit organizations and his dedication in the Information Technology field, Steve has been a stand out leader. His commitment and leadership makes him an asset in the Pueblo business community.” said President/CEO, Rod Slyhoff.
